The sisterhood of faith is not limited by one's own lifetime. It is the artist's desire that this portrait series will enable today's woman to sense a connection with these fourteen women of Bible times. Mrs. Hines wants Women of the Word's viewers to recognize women just like themselves and therein find encouragement, comfort and hope. We may each benefit from this group of very strong women whose stories have been purposely preserved for us. The first nine women of this series are found in the Old Testament while the last five are New Testament characters. The difference between the two groups is that those who went before left a path to follow. Sarah merely laughed when she was told of impending pregnancy at age eighty-two, but New Testament Elizabeth leapt with joy. Knowing how God had blessed Sarah in her old age would have made it easier for Elizabeth to embrace her own miracle. Similarly, Kami Hines' drawings are offered to facilitate personal application of godly principles illustrated in the lives of these Women of the Word. The shoulders Kami has drawn are the shoulders we stand upon.
The artist does not pretend that these portraits are actual representations of her unseen subjects. Rather, she has created them by employing a unique combination of faith and science. To the information given in scripture about each woman, Mrs. Hines added insights from personal Bible study and her own walk of faith. She then applied her forensic knowledge of ethnicity, Mrs. Hines wants Women of the Word's viewers to recognize women just like themselves and therein find encouragement, comfort and hope. bone structure, aging and the impact of weather and diet to draw faces expressing the character and life experience of each woman.
