Kathleen M. Hines, affectionately known as Kami, was among the first full-time Forensic Artists to be certified in the United States*. Extensive training in the science of crime developed her God given talent and yielded unusual precision in depicting facial bone structure, age, ethnic origins and character. Mrs. Hines' twenty year career in law enforcement further expanded her artistic expertise with rich experience and a wide spectrum of subjects. She regularly produced accurate composite drawings from witnesses' and victims' memory of suspects in addition to likenesses portraying age progression of missing children and adults. Fellow officers were encouraged by the high ratio of arrests to Mrs. Hines' drawings. Homicide victims identified from her two and three dimensional reconstruction of unknown remains (skulls) were later verified by dental records. The forensic services she performed for Clackamas County in Oregon were so successful, Mrs. Hines' work was requested by the FBI as well as state and local agencies. In turn, her far reaching reputation prompted numerous invitations for television appearances as well as presentations to local civic organizations in which she promoted the effectiveness of Forensic Art. Lastly, Kami helped develop the pool of forensic artists available by recruiting and mentoring aspiring artists from other agencies. *The details of Mrs. Hines' credentials are available on her
resume.
A new business enterprise, GIFTS OF ART, now offers the artistic work and freelance services of Kathleen Hines to the broader community. The woman who drew faces to catch criminals can now be commissioned to draw graphite portraits to capture your heart and preserve your heritage. Simple photographs of family members or friends are transformed by Kami's artistic skills into graphite portraits worthy of display on any wall in your home or presentation as that special gift. The exquisite drawings Mrs. Hines brings forth from even yellowed, damaged snapshots of yesteryear can restore your heritage and become family heirlooms cherished by future generations. Although thankful for her specialized training in forensics, retirement from law enforcement has freed up Mrs. Hines to release her gifting to glorify God in a new venue, Gifts of Art.
